With its Scandinavian roots reaching back
more than two hundred years, Sadolin has undergone many
changes. but what has remained at its core throughout is a commitment
to quality and passion for timber - attributes which have made Sadolin
one of the world’s foremost specialists in woodcare.
Now sold in 97 countries, Sadolin has a diverse, global knowledge
of wood and a respect for nature – which has seen the development
of initiatives such as its partnership with climate change business
Carbon Neutral.
The story of this now multi-national company started in Denmark
in 1777, when Jacob Holmblad was granted royal permission to establish
a textile dye works. Future generations continued to evolve the
works and at the time of Jacob’s great grandson’s deaths,
a thriving paint and varnish business had been established.
The second half of Sadolin’s heritage again began in Denmark,
where in 1907 Gunnar A. Sadolin – inspired by the fresh colours
of Egyptian antiquities – started producing wax colours.
Just five years later – the rich-in-tradition Holmblad met
the young and experimental Sadolin – and the future of the
company was secured. That same combination of heritage and innovation
is still at the heart of our business today.
