Based in North Shields, the Royal Quays Retail Outlet contains
a wealth of shopping opportunities selling brand names at bargain
prices.
The scheme, on behalf of clients, REALM of London, is designed
by architects Shepherd Design to transform the centre and improve
the shopping environment for customers. With the construction of
one new unit and the extension of existing stores, there was a need
to repaint the existing exterior timber boarding to compliment the
metallic silver hues of the proposed new facade cladding.
For this, Sadolin Classic and Sadolin Supercoat wood finishes
are being applied in five colours, varying in range from lilac to
rust. Classic is a translucent solvent-borne woodstain which is
easily absorbed by the timber, offering excellent long-term resistance
to peeling and flaking. In addition, the longevity of the timber
is protected, as the pigments in Classic protect against discolouration
and breakdown due to exposure to sunlight.
Supercoat’s unique formulation uses high solids, innovative
resin technology to give superior absorption and greater durability,
meaning fewer maintenance coats thereby saving time and reducing
labour costs. Because of the exposure of the site near to water,
protection against the elements was an essential consideration,
which the Sadolin products adequately offered.
The Royal Quays Retail Outlet is a large commercial development
that is making maximum use of the impact of colour as an enticing
invitation to customers. The use of Sadolin not only accommodates
this creativity but also provides optimum protection for over 9,000m2
of the exposed Western Red Cedar boarding, with minimal maintenance
requirements.
